Your Business Is Not You

business offer Oct 11, 2026

When every sale feels personal, even a brilliant offer becomes difficult to lead.

I see this pattern again and again with brilliant coaches, consultants, and mentors. They are not casually running a business. They are living it. They are breathing it. They built the offer from ten or twenty years of experience, from everything they survived, learned, tested, and finally understood.

This is beautiful. It is also dangerous.

Because now the offer is no longer simply an offer. It is your baby. And when someone says, ‘This is amazing, send me the link,’ and then disappears, it does not feel like a business decision. It feels as if they looked at your baby and said no.

The gift and the trap

Your closeness to the work is probably one of your biggest advantages. People can feel that you care. They can feel that you see them. You are not delivering a framework you memorized last weekend. You know what you are doing.

But the same closeness becomes a disadvantage when you cannot separate yourself from the response. Suddenly every quiet launch means something about you. Every person who does not buy becomes evidence that you are not visible enough, powerful enough, convincing enough, whatever enough.

No. A person did not buy an offer. This is the fact. Everything else is the story you add afterwards.

Put on the CEO hat

I am not asking you to become cold. I would never recommend that. Your humanity is part of your work. But there must be another part of you who can look at the numbers and say: What happened here? Did enough people see this? Was the outcome clear? Was the timing right? Did I actually invite people to buy?

This is the CEO hat. The CEO does not panic because one person ghosted. She looks at the pattern.

Before your next promotion, decide what belongs to the offer and what belongs to you. Your job is to create it, explain it, invite people, and deliver it well. The buyer’s job is to decide.

You can care deeply without making every answer a judgment on your value. In fact, you have to. Otherwise the business will pull on your nervous system every single day, and no strategy can rescue you from that.
